National Institute of Technology, Meghalaya

National Institute of Technology Meghalaya conjointly referred to as NIT Meghalaya or NITM is one among the thirty one National Institutes of Technology (NIT) located in Shillong, Meghalaya, India. The categories of NIT Meghalaya were started in 2010 at the Sardar Vallabhbhai (NIT) National Institute of Technology, Surat.

The institute is one of the thirty one NITs in India established as establishments of National Importance with funding support from the Ministry of Human Resource Development (HRD), government of India.

The institute was discovered by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (HRD) by the NIT act in 2010. the muse stone of NIT Meghalaya at Cherrapunjee was ordered by then Union Minister for IT and Human Resource Development(HRD) Kapil Sibal in October 2012.

The institute presently functions from its temporary field at the Bijni complicated settled in Laitumkhrah, Shillong, of the North jap Hill University. The Institute has been assigned a plot of land of regarding three hundred acres(another seventy three acres area unit to be adscititious soon) at 25° 15' twenty two.00" N, 91° 44' 40.00" E in Sohra within the East Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya for its permanent field.The Institute proposes to construct a contemporary progressive field to accommodate all its necessities in such a way that supplying area unit reduced whereas the engineered structures are harmonical with the environment. The Union Ministry of Human Resource Development (HRD) has awarded the contract for construction of the permanent field of the National Institute of Technology (NIT) in Meghalaya to the Central structure Department (CPWD).The Phase-I of constructions, targeted to be completed by Gregorian calendar month, 2015.

The institute admitted its 1st batch of B. school students in July, 2010 and therefore the 1st 2 batches disbursed their studies within the mentor institute, SV NIT Surat until December 2012. the educational activities of the institute in Meghalaya started in Shillong at the Bijni complicated of the North japanese Hill University, settled within the town, with the admission of the third batch in July, 2012.
